1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane
1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane is a colorless gas with a slight ethereal odor.
1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane
Formula: CH₂FCF₃
1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane (CH₂FCF₃), commonly known as R-134a, is a haloalkane refrigerant with thermodynamic properties that make it particularly useful in a variety of applications. This non-flammable gas is primarily used in air conditioning systems for automobiles but is also found in domestic refrigeration and other cooling applications.
R-134a is recognized for its environmental benefits, as it doesn’t deplete the ozone layer, unlike its predecessor R-12. It has a moderate Global Warming Potential (GWP), and while efforts are being made to phase it out in favor of even more eco-friendly alternatives, it remains widely used and accepted in many areas.
